Haley Skarupa said that on the way to Kettler Capitals Iceplex, she thought about the times she skated on the rink and could never imagine being back as an Olympic gold medalist.
"I never wrapped my head around that," says Skarupa. "Just coming full circle. It's such an honor."
A lot of the girls taking part in a hockey clinic Friday, like Charlotte Best who lives in Rockville, couldn't believe they were on the ice with real life Olympians.
"Well you're really, really excited but then you're meeting somebody famous," says Charlotte.
The 8 year old says she watched the Olympics and was "really, really glad they won."
Olympic team captain, Meghan Duggan is full of nothing but praise for Rockville's most recent Olympian.
"Haley, hands down, is one of the best teammates I've ever had," says Duggan. "Just fantastic character, just great work ethic, and she brings a lightness and a love to the locker room you can't replace. "
For now Haley Skarupa and her teammates will just keep riding the Olympic wave.
The team is scheduled to be honored during Saturday's game between the Capitals and Maple Leafs in Annapolis.
