The Hornets had never been tested in the playoffs this year before their quest to repeat as Maryland Class 1A champions Saturday night against Dunbar.

They were tested more than they thought Saturday, as Fairmont Heights was stifled by the Poets' swarming defense.

It resulted in Dunbar cruising to a 59-48 win, to win the program's 16th state championship.

Darren Lucas-White led the team with 19 points, but they scored just six points in the 3rd quarter when Dunbar grabbed a hold of things.

A big reason for that was because of Dashawn Phillip.

He was making shots all over the court to finish with 27 points.
