The Virginia Cavaliers held off Texas Tech to win the national championship in a fierce 85-77 overtime win.

Charlottesville welcomed the University of Virginia basketball team back to town after their win against Texas Tech Monday night.

The Virginia Cavaliers held off Texas Tech to win the national championship in a fierce 85-77 overtime win.

Crowds donned their best game-day attire and lined up to cheer as the team stepped off the bus.

"It's super awesome, cool, whatever," a young fan told WUSA9.

Another fourth grader sang the Lego Movie song, 'Everything is Awesome,' to describe how he was feeling.

"I still can't believe it, I'm still in awe," an adult fan said. "I'm taking all this in."

The victory was also a redemption story - Virginia was the first No. 1 team to ever lose to a 16 last year.

Monday night's win marks the first NCAA men's basketball title for the UVA program.
