Virginia mom on mission to help families with sick kids

Knowing they didn't have much time left with their daughter, her parents wanted to do something special for her. After several rounds of intense treatment, they threw her a carnival themed party.

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Moriah Richardson was a true girly girl. She was full of life, loved Disney Princesses and loved to dance. At just three-years-old, Moriah was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor.

"Doctors gave her a ten percent chance of making it a year," said her mother Sharday Richardson. She made it two years, passing away shortly before her fifth birthday.

Knowing they didn't have much time left with their daughter, her parents wanted to do something special for her. After several rounds of intense treatment, they threw her a carnival themed party.

"We had moon bounces, carousels, games, a Dj, it was bigger than I even thought I could put together myself," said Richardson.

To keep Moriah's legacy alive, Richardson started the 'Forever Moriah Foundation.' She helps other families plan celebrations for sick children to create memories they can hold on to, for years to come.

"The child chooses what theme they want and I plan them an over the top party with their family to make memories. For a brief moment to be able to do something and celebrate as a family, I'm telling you those memories you will cherish forever," said Richardson.

The foundation is planning its first party for a young girl in Northern Virginia.
