Firefighter 50 spokesman David Yonkoski told the Frederick News-Post that Deshields was participating in the Metric Century ride to benefit the Pleasant Valley Community Fire Department in Westminster, Md.

The bicycling fundraiser, held by Firefighter 50 Bicycle Ride, offers five different routes. Deshields was on the Metric Century, which is approximately 62 miles and runs through the eastern part of Frederick County, Md., according to the fundraiser's website. This route was also a new addition for this year's event.
