Police: Woman fatally shot by boyfriend in Kensington

The two were living together and got into an argument the day of the shooting.

KENSINGTON, Md. — A woman is dead and a man is in police custody after a late Tuesday night shooting in Kensington, Maryland, Montgomery County police said.

Officers responded to the 10700 block of Shaftesbury Street around 9:59 p.m. for the report of shooting. When police arrived at the scene they found a woman who had been fatally shot. 

Police said the victim 33-year-old Silvia Elenia Fernandez was arguing with her boyfriend, Alejandro Jose Perez de Leon, 48, when he shot and killed her. The two were living together at the time. 

Perez de Leon was taken into custody at the scene, where his weapon was also recovered. He was charged with first-degree murder and is now being held without bond.
