Ahead of wintry weather south of DC, 200 trucks pretreating roads in the District

WASHINGTON -- In preparation for potential wintry weather, the D.C. is pretreating roads on Sunday.

D.C. Snow Team is deploying 200 trucks and are encouraging residents to apply rock salt, de-icer, or kitty litter to sidewalks in front of their properties.

Winter weather is expected to stay south of the District; However, freezing temperatures are expected overnight.

FORECAST: Snow will fall south of DC Sunday, here's how much to expect

The heavier snow is expected to be confined to the I-64 corridor and points south and southwest of that where. South of DC for areas not included in the Winter Weather Advisory, some flurries and light snow showers are still possible with little to no accumulations.

The storm will have a far greater impact across southwestern Virginia and northwestern North Carolina. Mountain areas in western North Carolina could pick up well over a foot of snow. Driving south of Richmond along I-85 to Raleigh or along I-95 is not recommended. Driving south of Charlottesville along I-81 is also not recommended where snow amounts will increase throughout the Roanoke area.

Residents concerned about the treatment or plowing of specific roads should call the Citywide Call Center by dialing 311.
