Reaching fitness goals one step at a time

Fitness goals have created a new lifestyle for a Gaithersburg assistant principal. She's lost 100lbs and is about ready to run her first 5k.

“A lot of times people make judgments of women of larger-size…we can do anything”, says Amy Alonso, PhD., during a sit-down interview at Strawberry Knoll Elementary School. Amy is an assistant principal in Gaithersburg she dedicated to her work and her workout routine. Amy Alonso has already lost 100lbs on her fitness journey!

While she has completed some walking 5Ks over the years, she has never run one. She has her sites locked on a goal of health She’s running and using group workouts to reach that goal. Amy wants to inspire women who want to be healthier and says, “You have to be able to try something new and see where you go.”

Amy is part of Team #HeartLove which consist of 6 people trained by coaches Julie Sapper and Lisa Reichman. Each team member is training to run their very first 5K (3.1 mile) race at Fletcher’s Cove parkrun.
