DC has the best parks in the country, report says

Don't worry, Virginians, Arlington ranks in the top five for best parks in the country.

WASHINGTON -- D.C. has the best parks in the country, according to a new study from the non-profit Trust for Public Land released on Wednesday. 

Don't worry, Virginians, Arlington ranks in the top five for best parks in the country. 

The non-profit came up with these findings using population, median park size, parkland as percent of adjusted city area, percentage of resident within a 10-minute walk of a park, spending per resident basketball hoops per 10,000 resident, dog parks per 10,000 residents, playgrounds per 10,000 residents and recreation and senior centers per 20,000 residents. Using those variables, the organization gave each city a "ParkScore". 

D.C.'s score is 83.8 while Arlington's is 81.3. 

The study also revealed 98 percent of the residents in the District live within a 10 minute walk of a park. Twenty-one percent of the land is used for parks and recreation compared to the national average of 15 percent. 

According to the report, the District of Columbia has a total of 629 parks. So get out there enjoy the weather and take advantage of your local park.
