GREAT FALLS PARK, Va. - Visitors traveled in and out of Great Falls National Park Friday to get a look at the rising Potomac River.

Days of rainfall in the DMV made the falls more powerful than they typically are this time of year.

Herbert Canelas told WUSA9 he had never seen anything like it in the area.

"You can't see rocks or anything," he said.

The National Weather Service keeps records of the Potomac River and its depth a little south of Great Falls, near Chain Bridge.

Despite the enormity of the rapids through Great Falls, NWS said the area has still not reached minor flood stage.

A little down the river near Georgetown, the forecast as of Friday noon is for the Potomac River to enter into moderate flood stage and crest on Sunday, just shy of eight feet. This will be the highest crest of the Potomac River at Georgetown in more than four years.
