FORECAST DISCUSSION:

A developing coastal low brings a soaking rain to the area Thursday. It will potentially be D.C.'s wettest day in two months. The rain will be moderate to heavy at times Thursday morning and afternoon. Both commutes will be impacted.

The steadiest and heaviest rain will fall Thursday until 5 p.m.

A Flood Watch is in effect from 10 a.m. until midnight.

Overall, 1 to 2 inches of rain is possible in the Metro with a few areas getting up to 3". Around 1/2" - 1" west of the I-81 corridor will be possible. This will cause not just wet roads, but standing and ponding water on roads throughout the day.

The last of the rain is exiting the area from south to north between Thursday 3 p.m. and Thursday 9 p.m.

As the area of low pressure pulls away from our region, it will strengthen. This will create stronger wind gusts as Thursday night wears on and into Friday. Winds Friday will gust above 30 mph, along with partly sunny skies and scattered p.m. showers.  Mountains and higher elevations could see some snow Friday with rain showers for D.C. Metro.
