Flash Flood Watch Wednesday for strong storms for most of the DMV

Yellow Weather Alert for heavy downpours.

WASHINGTON — Muggy overnight with isolated storm possible. Lows holding in the 70s. Yellow Weather Alert Wednesday for showers and strong storms. Some storms will have gusty winds and heavy downpours. A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for the DMV east of I 81 Wednesday until 11 p.m..

FORECAST DISCUSSION: 

Muggy overnight with isolated storms.  A cold front approaches Wednesday and then stalls near the DMV for the rest of the week. This will spark off thunderstorms, some with heavy downpours. A Flash Flood Watch covers most of the DMV until 11 p.m. Wednesday. We issued a Yellow Weather Alert for Wednesday and other alerts may be needed Thursday and Friday.

Detailed Forecast:
Overnight: Partly cloudy and muggy with isolated storms. Lows: 70s. Winds: Light.
Wednesday: Partly sunny, hot, humid with showers and strong storms. Highs: 86 - 91. Winds: SSE 5-10.
Thursday: Partly to mostly cloudy and humid, strong storms. Highs: 79 - 84. Winds: SE/NE - 10.

Extended Forecast: 
Storm chances remain high Friday and will continue through Saturday. An upper-level trough will draw moisture into the DMV, meaning heavy downpours are possible with thunderstorms. Strong storms are possible each day. The clouds and showers will keep the high temps in the 80s by Thursday.
