WASHINGTON — Dangerous heat continues for the D.C. area the second half of the weekend. We have issued a Red Weather Alert Sunday. Highs will be in the mid to upper 90s, but factoring in the high humidity, it will feel like 105° - 115°. An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect for Sunday. There will also be some late day widely scattered showers & storms mainly between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. and any storm that pops up could be strong/severe or locally heavy.

Dangerous heat lasts through the weekend. Highs will be in the mid to upper 90s Sunday, but the feels like temps will climb between 105 and 115 from 10 AM to 10 PM. We have issued a Red Weather Alert for Saturday and Sunday for life threatening heat. There is an Excessive Heat Warning from 11 AM to 9 PM.
Later Sunday, there's the potential for some showers/storms. They'll be widely scattered so not everyone will get one but any storm that pops up could be locally heavy/strong. Critical timing is 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
A greater chance for storms comes in late Monday ahead of a strong cold front that finally brings an end to the heat wave by Tuesday.

A cold front is slowly passing through the area early Tuesday, leaving rain in the forecast for the morning commute. Some of the models bring heavy rain to the Tuesday morning commute. The last of the showers should be tapering off by mid-day Tuesday as drier and cooler air filters in. Sunshine returns by the end of the day, kicking off an extended stretch of fantastic weather across the DMV with sunshine, warm but not hot temps, and low humidity.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny and just gorgeous. Warm but not humid. Highs: Low to Mid 80s.
