Cleanup underway in Poolesville neighborhood where a tornado touched ground on Saturday

An EF-0 tornado touched down in Poolesville, Maryland on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

POOLESVILLE, Md. — Cleanup is underway in a Poolesville neighborhood after the National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed that a tornado touched down Saturday afternoon.

The NWS Baltimore/Washington said an EF-0 tornado tracked through Dowden Circle near Stevens Park with estimated peak winds at 75 miles per hour.

The tornado was confirmed from 1:58 p.m. to 1:59 p.m. and traveled a path of a football field with a maximum width of 25 yards according to the NWS.

"It got really dark, and you couldn't see hardly because it was raining so hard, and it started blowing," says Norm Mejeur who was in his son's home when the winds started banging on the rear of the house.

"The wind we thought it was going to come through the back windows. It was just going to blow out. We ran to the other side of the house and ran downstairs right away," Mejeur told WUSA9.

Homes whose backyards meet with Stevens Park experienced the majority of the damage. Residents in the area say no tornado warning was issued.

One couple told us that a couple of branches hit their home, but their shed was completely destroyed. A tree was snapped in half by the winds and sent crashing into their shed. Just a few steps away, a pine tree was completely uprooted, pulling up part of the backyard fence. The homeowners say they still are unsure when they will be able to get a crew in to cut down the trees.

A couple of houses down, another tree fell on a home's deck.

No injuries were reported and according to the NWS, property damage is considered to be minor.
