Travelers experience heavy traffic at Dulles airport

The airport even recommended that drivers make their pickups at the departure level instead of the arrival level.

WASHINGTON -- It was a busy day for travelers at Washington Dulles International Airport, but their experiences differed dependent upon when they got to the terminal.

Around 5 pm, traffic was very heavy heading into the northern Virginia airport. WUSA9 timed the length it would take to drive to the terminal from point where the Dulles Access Road and the Dulles Toll Road split. That trip took 36 minutes.

However, fifteen minutes later, traffic lightened up significantly. Inside the terminal, activity also seemed more similar to a regular day than one leading up to a holiday.

The staff at Dulles worked to ease traffic leading into the airport however they could Wednesday afternoon. The airport even recommended that drivers make their pickups at the departure level instead of the arrival level.
