'Mexican Geniuses: A Frida and Diego Immersive Experience' debuts in the District

From the same company that brought D.C. the Van Gogh immersive experience, Fever is displaying the legacy of the pair who took the art world by storm in the capital.

WASHINGTON — A new exhibit dedicated to immersing audiences in the works of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera makes its grand debut in D.C. Friday, Aug. 19.

"Mexican Geniuses: A Frida and Diego Immersive Experience," which came to life in London earlier this year, will showcase "the passion, beauty, and emotional relationship that left a profound impact on the art world and beyond," according to organizers.

The experience will feature over 300 projections of bold and vibrant colors, showcasing the work of two of the most prolific artists of the 20th Century. Exhibit goers will be seeing a presentation that was curated by a diverse, multi-disciplinary team of art historians and specialists, creative writers, stage designers and multimedia producers, officials stated.

The company behind the experience is Fever; the entertainment discovery platform known for the Van Gogh immersive exhibit that made its way to the District last year.

Fever has also partnered with Brain Hunter to create this latest experience; a Mexican company with the aim of bringing Mexican art and culture to the world in all its forms and expressions, through unique projects that inspire viewers in unconventional ways, they said. Brain Hunter has debuted previous experiences in Mexico, Madrid and Dubai.

"Washingtonians are invited to dive into the artistic similarities and differences within each painting, as well as the incredible legacy both artists have left on the history of modern art, discovering what inspired these two revolutionary Mexican painters," the companies shared.

"The iconic artwork of Frida and Diego will come to life with the latest video-mapping technology in a strategic layout that is designed with an all-digital, hands-free experience in mind. The immersive exhibition is structured in four galleries that tour through Frida and Diego’s individual and shared spaces, with the projection of paintings, photographs and animations, in a multisensory experience that will be captivating to audiences of all ages."

Anyone interested in partaking in the experience can find it at 1235 West Street Northeast, Washington, D.C. 20018. Tickets are on sale now through Fever’s website, with adult tickets available for $36 and children (ages 2 - 12) for $19.90. children under 2 are free. Discounts and family passes are available.
