9 cheap or free things to do in DC | June 1-4

June is the start of DC Pride.

WASHINGTON — Get out and soak up the sunshine with one of the many free or cheap activities happening in the District this weekend.

June is expected to be a busy month, with DC Pride officially kicking off at the start of the month.

Thursday, June 1:

Single Mingle Night at Kick Axe DC, 1401 Okie Street, NE

Starting at 7 p.m., every Thursday is singles night at Kick Axe Throwing D.C. for anyone 21 years old and up.

It's free entry to the event, with normal prices to throw axes if desired.

There will be a live DJ and dancing upstairs.

Trivia Night at Metrobar, 640 Rhode Island Avenue

From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., head to the outdoor bar on Rhode Island Avenue for a night of trivia. 

Feel free to attend solo or bring some friends with to compete!

Friday, June 2:

Live Music at Metrobar, 640 Rhode Island Avenue, NE

From 8 p.m. until 11 p.m., enjoy a free concert at Metrobar. 

"Hold for Biscuit" is expected to take the stage to play live on June 2.

Saturday, June 3:

Outdoor Vinyl & Vintage Marketplace, Crittenden Street, NW

From 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., head to the 14th Street Graffiti Museum for a record buy and marketplace organized by Chocolate City Rocks in collaboration with Art Under Pressure.

Hundreds of Funk, Soul, Hip-Hop, Reggae, Rock, and various other types of records will be on sale from private collectors.

Museum Walk Weekend, Dupont Circle

From 11 a.m. on June 3 to 4 p.m. on June 4, the following museums will be open for free in D.C.'s Dupont Circle and Kalorama neighborhoods:

  • Anderson House
  • Dumbarton House
  • Dupont Underground
  • National Museum of American Jewish Military History 
  • The Phillips Collection 
  • The President Wilson House 

Sound Scene, 7th Street, SW

This free, interactive sound and multi-sensory arts festival is coming to D.C. Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. both days.

The all-ages celebration features artists from Washington D.C. and around the world.

It is presented in partnership with the Smithsonian's Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.  

RSVP is optional, but appreciated. 

Yoga at Marvin Gaye Urban Farm, 5000 Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue, NE

From 11 a.m. until noon, a free all-level yoga class will be held at Marvin Gaye Urban Farm. 

Officials say practice will take place under the tent behind the vegetable garden. 

This week's class will be taught by Domoneicqua Williams. 

Attendees are asked to arrive ten minutes early for check-in.

Street parking is available. 

PRIDE Bingo + Show at Crazy Aunt Helen's, 713 8th Street, SE

From 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., join drag queen Tara Hoot for a fun-filled game of PRIDE Bingo and a show at Crazy Aunt Helen's in Southeast D.C. 

Seating and dinner start at 6 p.m., with the actual show kicking off at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $10 per person to attend. 

Sunday, June 4: 

Georgetown Waterfront Yoga, 3303 Water Street, NW

Runners at the Georgetown waterfront

From 10 a.m. until 11 p.m., head to the Georgetown Waterfront for a free hour-long yoga class followed by wine and vegan snacks. 

Tickets are $10 per person to attend the class.
