Lanes closed on NB BW Parkway after woman struck, killed near Rt. 202

Traffic is being diverted to the MD 202 ramp, U.S. Park Police say.

BLADENSBURG, Md. — A woman was struck and killed on Baltimore/Washington Parkway early Tuesday morning in Bladensburg, according to the U.S. Park Police.

The incident happened around 4:30 a.m. on BW Parkway neat Maryland Route 202, police said.

The car that struck the woman stayed at the scene following the incident.

At this time, northbound lanes on BW Parkway near MD 202 are closed. Traffic is being diverted to the MD 202 exit ramp, U.S. Park Police Sgt. Norment said.

The events leading up to the crash are unknown at this time.

Police have not released the identity of the woman who was struck on the highway.

It is also unknown when the lanes will reopen. Drivers can expect major delays in the area.

In a separate incident, a 31-year-old woman is dead after a two-car crash on westbound Interstate 70 in Myersville Monday, Maryland State Police said.

Police learned that the crash happened during traffic back up on I-70. The congestion caused cars to be stopped on the highway. Police said that's when one of the cars approached the traffic and the driver didn't slow down or stop the car before hitting the cars in front of them.

Police said 31-year-old Emily Jenkins was in one of the struck vehicles and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The person in the other vehicle was not injured.

Maryland State Police reopened the roadway following an investigation into the collision. 

Police are completing the collision and post-crash investigation.
