FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — Drivers in the area of Interstate 395 and Interstate 95 southbound at the Springfield interchange in Fairfax County should expect delays due to a crash with an overturned tanker truck.

A tanker truck carrying sewage overturned on the ramp from I-395 to 1-95 southbound near Exit 169 just before 8 a.m. The truck overturned and spilled sewage on the roadway. Virginia Department of Transportation crews were on the scene cleaning up the crash. Officials had previously closed all southbound lanes due to the crash. As of 9:45 a.m., all lanes have reopened but the right shoulder is still blocked as clean-up efforts continue.

VDOT officials report delays remain beginning near VA-236 and also extend on the Outer Loop of the Capital Beltway. Officials caution drivers to plan for delays as the clean-up effort could take a while.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash. The tanker truck appeared to be the only vehicle involved. VDOT officials said no serious injuries were reported.
