Bus transporting special needs group crashes on I-270 local lanes to Shady Grove Road, causing multiple injuries

The bus was occupied by a group of special needs passengers, according to the Montgomery County Fire Department.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — A bus collision on I-270 leading to Shady Grove Road on Tuesday resulted in what was termed a mass casualty incident, according to Montgomery County spokesperson Pete Piringer via Twitter. 

The bus was transporting a group of special needs passengers, according to Piringer, and early estimates by Montgomery County Fire stated there were approximately six passengers taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Montgomery County fire responded to the incident, which left some lanes blocked, closing exit 8 while emergency personnel was on the scene. As of 2 p.m., the exit is still closed.
