Frances Tiafoe reflects on Aussie Open success, looks to future

Hyattsville native Frances Tiafoe is coming off his most successful run at a tennis grand slam ever.

WASHINGTON — Frances Tiafoe is coming off his greatest run in a Grand Slam tournament.

The Hyattsville, Md. native made it to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open before losing to Rafael Nadal.

On Tuesday, we caught up with Frances Tiafoe, and he reflected on his run in Melbourne.

"Honestly it's unbelievable," says Tiafoe. "It's still surreal for me. All the emotions I had, and all the buzz that was going on, I feel like a lot of the tournament was revolving around me just because of the celebrations more or less. It was truly inspirational."

For the 30th ranked player in the world on the men's tour, he's just getting started.

When he was asked where he sees himself in five years, he has lofty goals.

"In my prime," says Tiafoe. Everytime I walk into a slam, I'm there to hopefully contest to win it. I want to be in the top five, leading American tennis, and just being that dude."
