Only minutes into the Opening Ceremony, America fell in love with a new Olympian.
Maame Biney couldn't contain her excitement when former Olympian Apolo Ahno interviewed her before the Opening Ceremony in PyeongChang.
Biney said it hit her in that moment that she was an Olympian, and she did an excited scream. She continued to smile, laugh and giggle all throughout the interview. Her joy was contagious.

Biney is the first African-American female speed skater to qualify for the Olympics. She is just 18.
Twitter instantly fell in love.
Maame Biney is everything that’s great about the Olympics.

I think I'm more excited to watch Maame Biney speedskate than anything else in the @NBCOlympics but she's an absolute joy to just listen to in an interview. @nbcwashington pic.twitter.com/w90vZukFfC
