Road to Rio: Missy Franklin

Missy Franklin won four gold medals and five medals overall in the 2012 games in London and also has set several American records in various backstroke events. She is aiming for more in 2016 where she is expected to be a medal favorite in Rio.

BIRTHDAY: May 10, 1995

HOMETOWN: Centennial, Colorado (born in Pasadena, California)

COLLEGE: University of California (Berkley)

OLYMPIC HIGHLIGHTS: Won gold in four events at the 2012 games, including the 100 and 200 meter backstroke, the 800 meter freestyle relay, and the 400 meter medley relay. She also won bronze in the 400 meter freestyle relay, along with a 4th place finish in the 200m free and a 5th place in the 100m free.

OTHER CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: Won a women's record six gold medals at the 2013 FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Spain and has a total of nine FINA World Championship gold medals, more than any other woman. She set the American record in the 200 free at the 2014 NCAA championships. She was the youngest member of the U.S. team at the 2010 Mutual of Omaha Pan Pacific Championships.

OTHER NOTES: Carries the nickname "Missy the Missle", she aspires to be a broadcast journalist after her swimming days are over and is fan of the NFL's Denver Broncos.
