'Hold onto this feeling': Redskins Super Bowl champs offer advice to Caps players

"Hold onto this feeling. Remember what this feels like. It's the best feeling in the world."

WASHINGTON - On Tuesday, D.C. will host a victory parade for the Capitals--the first major parade honoring a sports team since 1992.

The first one ever was in 1988 when the Redskins won the Super Bowl. More than 600,000 people attended and it got rowdy. Barricades and taxis were overturned. More than 30 people were arrested.

So, when the team won again in 1992, a smaller gathering was planned. About 75,000 people celebrated the celebration on the National Mall.

CAPS VICTORY PARADE: Everything you need to know

Former Redskins players who part of that celebration are telling the Stanley Cup champion Caps players to soak in every second.

"For as long as that pixie dust lasts, everyone is excited to know you," said former Redskins player Charles Mann. He said he felt the love coming back to D.C. after his team won the Super Bowl in '88 and '92.

"It's neat to see people wearing your jersey," said Mann. "People may not say that, but it is."

Brad Edwards, a Redskins player on the 1992 team remembers the feeling, too.

"Two weeks after the Super Bowl, my sister got married," Edwards recalled. "Four or 500 people were there, and it almost got to the point where I had to leave the wedding. People wanted things signed."

For Edwards, seeing thousands of people turn out for the 1992 parade was unforgettable.

"I remember thinking it just doesn't get any better than this," he said.

Just like fans came out to the airport to welcome the Caps home, Mann remembers that moment after the 1992 Super Bowl victory.

"One time we got back at 3 in the morning and there were hundreds of fans lining the streets and I was like is this for us? They are crazy," said Mann.

Both former players said they couldn't be happier to see the Caps soaking in this special time and relishing in their success

However, they do have some advice for D.C.'s newest champions.

"Hold onto this feeling. Remember what this feels like. It's the best feeling in the world," said Mann. "If you want this again, remember how hard you had to work, remember what it took and then hold onto it."
