FORT WASHINGTON, Md. (WUSA 9) -- Friendly beat Largo 13-12 Friday, the night the school welcomed back Cleveland Browns' star cornerback Joe Haden.

Haden played safety and quarterback at Friendly until he graduated in 2007. He played college football at the University of Florida and was drafted by the Browns in 2010.

"I'm truly blessed to come back to my high school and be accepted," Haden said.

Friendly honored Haden by declaring Sept. 26 "Joe Haden Day."

The Patriots took a 7-6 lead into the half on a 30-yard run by Christian Myles. Haden was honored in a ceremony on the field at halftime during which the new "Joe Haden III Press Box" was revealed to Haden and his family.

"Playing high school ball is special," Haden said. "Players build relationships and bonds that no one can take away from them."Haden said it was a humbling experience to come back and be surrounded by his former coaches and fans. He said he hopes to be a role model for current players.

After watching the halftime festivities both teams came out of the gate inspired. Largo quarterback Tevon Littleton scored on a QB sneak on the Lions' opening drive, but Friendly would bounce back. Friendly defensive back Isaiah Dozier swung the momentum of the game with an interception. Friendly's offense was able to capitalize with a 15-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Reicardo Smith to Abraham Lyles III to take a 13-12 lead.

Smith completed 12 of 21 passes for 157 yards in just his second career start.

With Largo driving in the final minute of the game with a chance to win, Friendly took a play out of the Joe Haden playbook by knocking down a 4th down pass in the end zone to secure the victory.
