COLLEGE PARK, Md. – On Tuesday, the University of Maryland became an official member of theUniversity of Maryland.

President Wallace Loh and Maryland Color Commentator Johnny Holliday hosted a party on campus Tuesday morning.

Cheerleaders and the school band played as staff members, alumni and fans took place in the activities.

"This is a great day for the University of Maryland. We are Terps. We think big. We move forward," Loh said. "We celebrate campus wide because the benefits of membership in the Big Ten span the whole institution."

The school also debuted a new ice cream flavor, "B1G Ice Cream." It was described as a rich and creamy bourbon vanilla bean ice cream swirled with a raspberry and cream de cassis Melba sauce, accented with pieces of three historic, uniquely Maryland cakes: Kossuth cake, Smith Island Cake and Lord Baltimore cake, splashed with a hint of Tiple Sec.

As basketball coach Mark Turgeon said "free ice cream is a good way to start anything."
