WASHINGTON — Hundreds of crashes and incidents of stalled out vehicles have been reported around Maryland, D.C. and Virginia Wednesday as a winter storm moved through the region. Many schools and businesses announced closures the night before and authorities continued to urge motorists to stay off the roads during the height of the storm.
Around 8:30 a.m., Maryland State Police on Twitter said snow emergency plans were in effect for several counties in the state, including Montgomery, Prince George’s, St. Mary’s, Howard and Frederick. Check here for more information here.
Crews from the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service were called to the Inner Loop of Interstate 495 Beltway between Georgia Avenue and Colesville Road for a collision.

WUSA9 photographer Kurt Brooks reported seeing a vehicle that left the roadway and almost into pond on northbound Interstate 95 at Maryland Route 200.
Two Ride On buses were stuck on Veirs Mill Raod near Pendleton Drive in Montgomery County, police said.
Veirs Mill Road seems to be a big trouble spot so far Wednesday morning, Montgomery County police said. Multiple crashes were reported on Veirs Mill Road at Clearfield Road as well as Turkey Branch Road, police said.
Montgomery County police were also called to a rollover crash at 25625 Frederick Road in Clarksburg area and a vehicle off the road at Norbeck between Norwood and New Hampshire Avenue.
There were minor injuries in a single-vehicle crash along the 9800 block of Rockville Pike in Bethesda.
WUSA9’s Bruce Leshan headed to East West Highway between Connecticut and Wisconsin avenues in Bethesda for multiple crashes that were reported there.
Around 9 a.m., three vehicles were reportedly stuck on the Inner Loop ramp to northbound U.S. Route 1.
A crash closed southbound Maryland Route 4 at the Interstate 495 and Interstate 95 interchange for a some time.
In Frederick, a disabled truck closed the right lane of eastbound Interstate 70 near Maryland Route 40, police said.
The Virginia State Police advised motorists to stay off the road after troopers responded to nearly 800 incidents of crashes and stuck vehicles since midnight Wednesday.
Among those, VSP said a tractor-trailer in the left shoulder of northbound express lanes of Interstate 495, north of exit 50. In another incident a tractor-trailer jackknifed on Route 606 at Overland Drive in Dulles.
While the majority of the crashed involved damage to vehicles and minor injuries, a crash in Lee County was fatal, VSP said. It's unclear if that fatal crash was weather-related, police said.
