‘The Perfect Match’ | Retired Montgomery Co. officer donates kidney to former partner-in-crime

Retired officer receives the kidney he desperately needed from his former patrol partner

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. —

Retired Montgomery County Police Officer Stan Barsch will receive the kidney he desperately needed. His perfect match? His former patrol partner, and now retired officer, Megan Ambrose.

The dynamic duo met at the MCP Police Academy back in 2007 and quickly became friends, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.

Post-graduation Barsch and Ambrose became partners-in-crime as they patrolled the streets of Silver Spring under late Sgt. Andy Kranking.

Ambrose later retired from the force in 2012 after sustaining injuries from being involved in a car crash while on duty. Barsch, on the other hand, retired in 2016 due to polycystic kidney disease, the post said.

In Jan. Barsch revealed he needed a new kidney and Ambrose was one of the first 30 people to respond. Ambrose went to get tested to see if she was a perfect match.

Thursday, Barsch posted to Facebook announcing Ambrose surprised him with a note confirming the kidney was a 100% match.

“So I heard urine need of a kidney,” the note read, “Want mine?”

Barsch was captured on video reading the note. “Turns out that we are a perfect match… not only on the job but in blood & organs too. You always had my back on the road and off, now you can have my kidney. I am honored to be able to give you the gift of life. Just take care of my **** please.”

Ambrose said the surgery is scheduled for May 14.
