PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. —

Police have identified the person responsible for posting anonymous threats via Instagram to several schools in the Manassas area of Prince William County on Friday.

The Prince William County Police Department and Manassas City Police said they are looking into threats to West Gate Elementary, Stonewall Middle, Sudley Elementary, Ellis Elementary, Loch Lomond Elementary, Sinclair Elementary, and two other schools in Manassas city.

Police said the social media account was made just before the threat was posted and was taken down due to their investigation.

Officials said the poster is a student at Stonewall Middle School and charges are currently pending.

Although authorities say the threats have been unsubstantiated, police are taking all threats made to the schools very seriously. “The Prince William County Police Department takes all threats seriously and will aggressively seek to hold the individual who posted the threat and those involved accountable for their actions, including criminal prosecution, regardless of the intent of the post, “ the department said in a media release.

Officials said the post did not specify a date for the threat. However, police will increase presence at those schools throughout the week.

Anyone with information on the individual who posted the threat is asked to contact Prince William County Police at 703-792-6500 or Manassas City Police at 703-257-8000.
