Police: Alcohol may have been a factor in head-on fatal crash in Charles County, Md

Officials say a 1995 Ford F-150 was driving the wrong way on Rt. 301 when it crashed into a 2017 Honda Civic.

NEWBURG, Md. —

Authorities are investigating what led to a fatal car crash on Saturday in the Newburg area of Charles County, Maryland. 

Around 12:45 a.m. Maryland State Police said they responded to the two-car crash on the southbound lanes of Route 301 near Maryland Route 234.

Officials said a 1995 Ford F-150 was driving the wrong way on Rt. 301 when it crashed head-on into a 2017 Honda Civic. The collision caused the F-150 to overturn and the Honda to spin out. 

Police say the driver of the F-150, 57-year-old Kevin Earl Johnson was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the Honda, Krystal Daniella-Lyn Lewis, was transported to University of Maryland Prince George’s Hospital for treatment.

Investigators say alcohol may have been a factor in the collision. Anyone who may have witnessed this crash should call police at 301-392-1231.
