CLINTON, Md. (WUSA9) -- Prince Georges County Police have arrested 48-year-old Angelique Chase in connection with the fatal shooting of her son, Chris Perry.
At the family's home on Buckler Road in Clinton, Maryland, Perry's family requested their privacy. The shooting happened around 9 pm Thursday night.
Police say that Chase got in an argument with her 17-year-old son, a senior in high school. Detectives say she told her nephew to go to the basement and that's where she got a gun. Chase came back upstairs and police say that is when she shot her son once. During an interview, Chase told police the gun went off by accident.
"My heart goes out to he mom because you bring them into this world, you don't expect to take them out of it," said neighbor Victoria Pinkard.
Several neighbors told WUSA9 that Chase was known for being controlling, to the point she would drive her son two block away to school. Chase has been charged with first and second degree murder. She is in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
