Police: NW DC murder-suicide appears to be domestic

The bodies were found Friday morning in a home in the Northwest DC neighborhood of American University Park.

WASHINGTON — A man and a woman were found dead Friday in Northwest Washington in what appears to be a murder-suicide, police said.

At 9:25 a.m. officers were dispatched to the 4300 block of Windom Place NW in the American University Park neighborhood to check on the welfare of occupants of the home. They had to force their way into the home and said they saw the man, alive and holding a handgun.

"Officers heard a gunshot then found the adult male suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound," Metro PD officials wrote in a release.

Responding officers then found an unconscious and unresponsive adult woman with multiple gunshot wounds.

Friday night, officials said the incident appeared to be domestic in nature. They identified the deceased as 51-year-old Jason Rieff and 45-year-old Lola Gulomova, both of Northwest D.C.

The deaths are under investigation, but preliminary investigation indicated a murder-suicide.
