BELTSVILLE, Md. — Investigators are trying to determine what led to a crash that killed a pedestrian on I-95 in Beltsville early Tuesday morning.

According to Maryland State Police officials, a UPS tandem tractor trailer traveling in the southbound lanes of I-95 just north of the Capital Beltway struck a person in the roadway around 1:00 a.m.  The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the tractor trailer stayed at the scene.  At this time there is no information indicating why the man was in the busy stretch of road at the time of the incident.

An MSP specialized investigation unit responded to the scene to investigate, along with a crew from Maryland State Highways to assist in traffic control.

The identity of the victim has not been released, which is pending notification of next-of-kin.
