DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WVEC) -- Sheriff's deputies arrested a man on Tuesday who is accused of killing his wife in Charleston, South Carolina.

They took Robert “Bob” McCaffrey in custody shortly after 7 a.m. on a fugitive warrant related to the disappearance of his wife, Marjorie “Gayle” McCaffrey, in 2012.

Charleston County Sheriff's detectives said they were at the McCaffreys' home at 2829 Limestone Boulevard in Charleston after McCaffrey reported his wife missing. As deputies investigated, they became suspicious about the circumstances surrounding Gayle's disappearance.

Despite searches that have included local, state, and federal law enforcement offices, as well as family, friends, and coworkers of Gayle McCaffrey, no one has been able to find her.

Detectives arrested McCaffrey on June 21, 2014 for Obstruction of Justice based on inconsistencies in a statement he made to investigators.

Deputies from Charleston County were in Dare County Tuesday when McCaffrey was arrested.

He is in the Dare County Detention Center and will be extradited to South Carolina where he will be charged with Murder.
