STERLING, Va. — A Loudoun County, Va. high school student was taken into custody on Thursday after police say he assaulted a staff member and a school resource officer. 

Around 1 p.m., police say an administrative staff member at Dominion High School was attempting to take a student to the office from the school's cafeteria. After the student refused several times, police say he assaulted the staff member. 

A school resource officer approached and tried to calm the student down. Police say the student assaulted the schools resource officer and the student was taken into custody. 

The school resource officer was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries. Police say the student refused medical treatment and was taken to a juvenile detention center.
