Suspicious package in Quantico linked to same suspect, FBI says

The FBI believes the suspect sent suspicious packages to at least 7 military or government installments since Monday.

QUANTICO, VA (WUSA9) — A suspicious package discovered at the Quantico Post Office Thursday has been linked to the same man accused of mailing several other suspicious packages in the D.C. area, the FBI Washington Field Office confirmed.

Thanh Cong Phan, a 43-year-old man from Washington state, was arrested Tuesday.

The FBI believes he sent 11 suspicious packages to military or government locations since Monday, with the Quantico Post Office being the latest. The FBI’s training and research academy is in Quantico, Va., along with a Marine Corps base.

All of the suspicious packages have ended up in Quantico—taken by the FBI for further analysis.

The packages were sent to or discovered at the following locations:

  • Fort Belvoir, Virginia
  • Joint Base Anacostia – Bolling, Washington D.C.
  • Fort Lesley J. McNair, Washington D.C.
  • Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Dahlgren, Virginia
  • Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Langley, Virginia
  • Government Mail Facility, Northeast, D.C.
  • Quantico Post Office, Quantico, Va.
