Protest outside of Bristow site where border kids are being held

Protesters flocked to a in Bristow, Va. children's facility housing kids separated from their parents at the border.

On Tuesday, the government failed to meet a court-ordered deadline to reunite dozens of children separated at the border.

Another deadline is looming. That’s why an interfaith protest gathered outside of a Bristow, Va. "Youth for Tomorrow" location were several of those border children are reportedly behind held.

“When I first learned that this was happening down the street from me, I was outraged,” said Rhonda Reese.

That’s why the Prince William County resident decided to help organize the protest on July 10th. It's the day the government was court-ordered to reunite a reported 102 kids separated from parents due to the “Zero Tolerance Policy.” The deadline was for children under the age of five years old.

Four.

That's how many kids the Department of Health and Human Services reunited before the deadline. Another 34 were expected to be reunited by the end of the day on Tuesday.

Both numbers are not even half of 102.

In Bristow, WUSA9 was unable to get updates on some 15 kids reportedly housed there. Both Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Senator Mark Warner’s (D-VA) spokespeople said they’re still waiting for HHS to answer specifics. “They’re not prioritizing the issue,” said the Muslim Association of Virginia’s Nathan Mowery.

"We're not here to protest this facility where there are children who have been separated from their families. They are doing their best to help. We are here because the situation should've never occurred in the first place,” Mowery told the crowd.

"Deport them all,” a passerby shouted from a car.

"It's a moral issue. I don't care what side of the isle you're on. You can agree, this isn't right,” said Reese. She said she will not accept this in her backyard.

The government has a court-ordered deadline to reunite kids older than five years old by July 26th.
