VIRGINIA (WUSA9) — A baby was born in an I-66 work zone early Sunday morning.

The mother gave birth with the assistance of a mid-wife around 5 a.m., in the westbound lanes of I-66 near Route 50, according to Bill Delaney, the public information officer for the Fairfax County Fire Department.

By the time EMS and work crews arrived, the baby had been born. Mom and the new baby were transported to a hospital afterwards.

Virginia’s Department of Transportation tweeted out “love to the family,” on their account, writing that HOV-2 became HOV-3 after the mom gave birth.
