Leesburg police ramp up patrol at elementary school after it was targeted in online threat

The Leesburg Police Department is working with Loudoun County Public Schools regarding a rumored online threat, despite it not believed to be credible.

LEESBURG, Va. — Additional police officers will be patrolling an elementary school in Leesburg, Virginia, Monday after a rumored online threat, police said. The beefed-up security is a measure taken out of an abundance of caution, despite the threat not seeming credible.

An online chat mentioned a rumored threat towards the Cool Spring Elementary School on Tavistock Drive in Leesburg. The Leesburg Police Department (LPD) said it's working with Loudoun County Public Schools to continue investigating the threat.

In response to the threat, parents can expect additional patrols at the school from Leesburg police during school hours all week. A School Resource Officer with LPD assigned to Cool Spring Elementary School in conjunction with the LPD Criminal Investigation will continue to investigate the threat.

Suspicious activity can be sent to the LPD 24/7 via their non-emergency dispatch line at 703-771-4500 or 9-1-1 emergencies. Leesburg police want to remind the community if they see something, say something.
