Officers responded to a crash involving a police cruiser in Prince William County Thursday night.
It happened at 8:36 p.m. on Nokesville Road and Piper Lane in Manassas.
Aerial footage showed traffic moving slowly as it was directed around the crash.
Police said the preliminary investigation showed the officer was making a left turn from Piper Lane onto southbound Nokesville Road when a woman in a Ford Edge heading northbound hit the police officer.
The officer had to be extracted from the marked Ford Crown, but was awake and alert when he was taken to a nearby hospital.
The other driver was also taken to the hospital, but police did not know the extent of her injuries.
"At this time, the officer is believed to have had the right-of-way with a green traffic signal," officials wrote in a release. "The investigation continues."
The location of the Thursday crash was the same intersection as where a driver hit and killed another police officer in 2012, according to previous reporting of Inside NoVa. That crash killed 35-year-old officer Chris Yung, who had been responding to a report of another accident.
