SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. — A person is dead and three others are hurt after a crash on Interstate 95 in Spotsylvania County, according to Virginia State Police.

The crash happened around 5:11 a.m., according to VSP Sergeant Brent Coffey. Troopers responded to a four vehicle crash along I-95 at mile marker 118 in Spotsylvania County.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a sedan was traveling south on I-95 when it ran off the left side of the road, struck a guardrail and continued across three lanes of traffic and off the right side of the road, where it collided with a tractor trailer that was parked on the shoulder, Coffey said.

The sedan came to rest in the right lane, where it was struck by two additional southbound tractor trailers. Coffey confirmed that one person has died in the crash and three other people were seriously injured. He did not offer additional details about the people involved.

Virginia State Police continue to investigate this crash to determine exactly what happened.

Virginia Department of Transportation said the on-ramp to I-95 southbound at Exit 126/Massaponax is closed due to the crash.
