16-year-old charged after shooting scare at Tysons Corner Center Sunday

Although no shots were fired, Fairfax Co. Police said that a gun was recovered and one suspect is still on the loose.

TYSONS, Va. — A 16-year-old has been charged after an off-duty officer spotted three people at Tysons Corner Center mall who they believed may have been connected to an Arlington robbery.

The teen from Centreville has since been charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm by an underage person, possession of a concealed weapon, possession of a stolen firearm and obstruction of justice.

Officials did not further specify where the robbery happened and Fairfax County Police have confirmed that no shots were fired Sunday at Tysons Corner Center.

Police said Sunday that two suspects were taken into custody and a gun was recovered, while one suspect was still being sought as of Sunday night, police said, adding that there was no current threat to the mall or community.

The shooting scare comes after some social media posts Sunday evening said people were seen running from the mall and that shots may have been fired amid the holiday shopping rush, on the first night of Hanukkah and just one weekend before Christmas.

It is the third time this year that a shooting scare has happened at the mall.

Sunday's incident comes months after another that caused panic at the mall over the summer.

Fairfax County police confirmed a report of shots fired at Tysons Corner Center mall was actually a fallen light fixture that caused a scare on Aug. 7. The mall did go on lockdown as police were investigating the reported shooting.

Two months before, in June, the mall was evacuated on a Saturday afternoon after shots were fired during a group fight. However, police confirmed no one was injured in the shooting. Three people were treated for minor injuries suffered in the evacuation.

In July, a D.C.-based rapper and alleged gang leader was charged with firing a gun multiple times inside the crowded Virginia mall over Father's Day weekend. He was denied bond.
