The teenager killed just blocks from Anacostia High School Thursday afternoon was identified as 17-year-old Kevin Anthony Jackson, from Southeast.
Police said he was shot on 16th Street at Good Hope Road around 2 p.m.
There is confusion as to whether he was enrolled at Anacostia High School but several staff members and students said he just started his junior year.

An adult man was also shot and is expected to recover.
Police are still looking for the gunman, a man dressed in black who ran from the scene.
