Police investigating fatal pedestrian crash in Rockville

The identity of the pedestrian will be released once family has been notified.

ROCKVILLE, Md. (WUSA9) — Detectives with the Montgomery County Police Department are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred in Rockville last night.

According police, at approximately 9:51 p.m., on Saturday, June 2, officers and emergency personnel responded to 502 Hungerford Drive for a collision involving a pedestrian.

Police said first responders found the pedestrian, who was transported to Suburban Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

According to police, a preliminary investigation revealed that the adult male pedestrian was attempting to cross the northbound lanes of Hungerford Drive, when he was struck by a Lexus 350, driven by Shihping Shih, 66, of Autumn Wind Way in Rockville.

Police said Shih remained on the scene, and neither he or his adult female passenger were injured.

The identity of the pedestrian will be released once family has been notified.

This cause of the accident remains under investigation.
