PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. -- Ku Klux Klan recruiting flyers were found in multiple driveways in the Gainesville and Bristow areas over the weekend, according to Prince William County police.

Sunday morning, a person called police and reported that they had found a bag that had birdseeds and pamphlets with recruiting material for the KKK inside.

Police said the bags were thrown at random driveways in the Gainesville and Bristow areas sometime overnight Saturday into Sunday. The bags were tossed along the area of Lee Hwy between Carver Rd. and Old Carolina Rd. Some other bags were found in the Bristow Village neighborhood.

Authorities believe the birdseeds were used to help weigh down the bags and keep the flyers from flying away.

No threats were made in the pamphlets and police do not believe they were targeted at anyone specific.

Prince William County police said a similar incident happened on April 28 in the 4500 block of Forestburg Ln in Triangle.

The investigation remains ongoing.
