WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) — The Potomac will reach flood levels from all the rain we got in the past week. As devastating as the floods have been in the Potomac’s watershed, the flooding is helpful.
The Potomac River watershed is truly the lifeblood of our region. It covers more than 14,000 square miles across four states. The watershed provides drinking water for more than six million people.
The flooding replenishes the drinking water, it renews the soil along the watershed and it purges some of the sediment.
