WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A suspect hijacked a Metrobus and then fatally struck a pedestrian Tuesday morning, D.C. police said.

Police say the bus was hijacked in the 4200 block of Minnesota Avenue around 10:45 a.m. after the suspect assaulted the driver.

Police have arrested and charged 30-year-old Keith Loving of Northeast D.C. with Murder Two in connection with the incident.

The passengers fled from the bus when they noticed the attack happening.The Metrobus driver was able to push the emergency button, prompting police to respond to the scene.

The man then fatally struck a pedestrian. Police later identified the pedestrian as 40-year-old Anthony Payne of Northwest D.C.

Loving was taken to the hospital, but police did not provide any information about his condition.
