Police: Man died after being hit by two cars in Capitol Heights

CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. — A 43-year-old man who was hit by an SUV and another vehicle3 in Capitol Heights on Saturday has now died, police said.

Around 12:50 a.m. Saturday, Prince George's County police officers were called to Central Avenue at Hampton Park Boulevard for the report of a pedestrian collision. 

Police said the victim, William Petty, was crossing Central Avenue when he was hit by an SUV. Petty was not in the crosswalk when he was hit. 

Shortly after, a second car hit Petty while he was on the ground. Investigators said that driver did not remain on scene and may not know they hit Petty.

Police said they would like to talk to the driver but have not released a description of them or their vehicle.
