Police collecting gift cards for Gemmell family

Takoma Park police are collecting gift cards for family of three of the Gaithersburg plane crash victims.

TAKOMA PARK, Md. (WUSA9) -- Takoma Park police are collecting gift cards for family of three of the Gaithersburg plane crash victims.

Marie Gemmel and her two young sons, Cole and Devin, were killed when the small plane hit their house on Drop Forge Lane on Monday morning. Marie husband Ken and daughter Arabelle were not home at the time, and now they've lost their family, home and belongings.

"This tragedy is unimaginable and even more difficult to fathom at this time of year," police said in a news release.

Beginning Friday, December 12, you can drop off gift cards at the Takoma Park Police Department at 7500 Maple Avenue from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Officers will be there after hours as well.

Takoma Park police will collect gift cards until Dec. 22, and then deliver them to the Gemmell Family by Christmas.

The immediate need, Mr. Gemmell posted on his Facebook page, is gift cards to begin rebuilding their lives. Suggested cards are for: gasoline, grocery stores, drug stores, Target, Walmart, Visa or Mastercard.
