OXON HILL, Md. (AP) - A jury has awarded a North Carolina woman $100,000 for injuries she suffered from bedbugs in a Maryland hotel room.

This week a jury in Prince George's County, Maryland, awarded Stacey Belle of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, as compensation for bites she says she received at a Red Roof Inn.

Belle says she stayed at the hotel in Oxon Hill, Maryland, for one night in January 2014. The Washington Post reports that Belle says she woke up itching, found welts on her arms and hands, and found bedbugs crawling under her pillow.

A Red Roof Inn spokeswoman said in an email statement that the company "disagrees" with the jury's award.
